Niels Bohr, life behind Physics

Vilhelm Bohr is a grandson of Niels Bohr and a son of Aage Bohr, both nobel laurates in physics. He got his medical and doctor of science degrees at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and is now a Department Chair at the National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, Washington, USA. He is also a professor at the Copenhagen University Medical School. He studies the molecular and cellular processes of Aging. He is a member of the Royal Danish National Academy of Sciences and he is the Chairman of the Board of the Niels Bohr Archive in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Niels Bohr discovered the atom and was the leader of the Niels Bohr Institute of Physics in Copenhagen, where many discoveries were made, and many leaders in physics were trained since the 1920’s. Vilhelm Bohr will discuss Niels Bohr as a person, the family life in the Bohr family, the roles of Niels Bohr’s father, Christian Bohr, his wife, Margrethe Bohr and others. He will discuss what led to the great scientific success of the NB Institute and Niels Bohrs efforts to generate a more open world after the second world war and some of the history behind the development and global importance of the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen. He will discuss Bohr’s role in the second world war and the meetings with Heisenberg and political leaders during that time.
