Active matter physics, a highly interdisciplinary field, is a fast-growing area of condensed matter physics today. These peculiar systems are intrinsically away from equilibrium and exhibit a beautiful variety of emergent behavior at mesoscale and beyond. Self-assembly, non-equilibrium, driven matter, micro-swimmers, collective activity -- these are just a few of the concepts and buzzwords in this emerging field. This talk will emphasize surprises and research opportunities.
