Unusual format electronics such as stretchable and foldable electronics are emerging as a technology that could be valuable for various applications, such as wearable and foldable systems for personal health monitoring, hemispherical detector arrays and foldable display. However, such devices cannot be accomplished with conventional wafer based circuits or even with more recent systems that offer simple mechanical bendability. We have developed the process to create directly ultrathin semiconductor elements from bulk semiconductor wafers and to produce large scale graphene film that can be useful for high performance stretchable electronic devices. In this talk, I present some of our recent work in this area, including material development and device integration for unusual format electronics.
