Scaling behavior of the one-dimensional KPZ equation

Through exact solutions the scaling of 1D surface growth can be studied in great detail. Surprisingly the scaling functions depend on initial conditions and there are unexpected links to the edge scaling of random matrices. The common feature are non-intersecting line ensembles, which will be explained. Some material is discussed in my article Physica A 369, 71 --99 (2006).
