Optical spectroscopy is used to probe optical transitions in nanostructures. Graphene and carbon nanotubes will be discussed as examples. Biasing on graphene can significantly shift their Fermi level and drastically modify their absorption spectrum. Asymmetric biasing can lead to a widely tunable energy gap in bilayer graphene.
