What can we learn from the CERN Large Hadron Collider?

The CERN LHC will explore soon the TeV energy scale where new fundamental physics is likely to reveal itself. I discuss why we expect the existence of new physics at the TeV scale, what kind of new physics has been speculated so far, and how can we extract information on the underlying theory from LHC experiment.
