The pursuit of the most general gravity theory

Recent observations strongly suggest that our Universe has had two periods of accelerated expansion. One is the so-called inflation, the accelerated expansion in the very early Universe. The other is the current acceleration, whose source is often called dark energy. Unfortunately, we have not yet identified these sources. One way to identify them is to examine as broadly as possible the models that describe inflation and/or dark energy. Then, we can step by step constrain models from observations and hope to eventually reach a true theory. In this talk, we will review recent developments in the pursuit of the most general gravity theory, with particular attention to scalar-tensor theory. If time permits, our recent work will also be presented.
