Now in 2026, kagome lattice system is broadly accepted as one of the most important material platforms in condensed matter physics. Yet, back in 2017, most researchers were skeptical about the experimental realization of kagome lattice physics, regarding it merely as a simplified theoretical toy model.
In this talk, I will review the trajectory of this research field from 2017 to 2026, outlining the key discoveries and breakthroughs that fundamentally reshaped the community’s perspective. This reflection will provide a rare opportunity to understand how a new research field begins, spreads, and ultimately flourishes. I will conclude by summarizing the major scientific goals and outlooks that define the next frontier of this still-evolving field.
